Eating Out

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Aimee Deak I know how difficult it can be do stick to a healthy diet when trying to eat out. Here are some tips that might prevent you from totally blowing it the next time you dine out. 1. As soon as your food is served, ask for a box and put half of your meal into it to take home. Restaurant portions are usually twice the size they should be anyway. 2. Don’t ruin a nice, low fat salad with creamy dressing. Go for the vinaigrette or oil and vinegar, and use them sparingly. 3. If you go out to dinner, are at someones house for dinner or are generally in any situation where you cannot prepare your own food, do the best you can to choose the healthiest food possible. Scrape heavy sauce off meat, order salad dressing on the side, and eat your salad first. 4. Eat your salad first and, when your dinner is served, eat your veggies first, then the carbs and meat. You most likely will not be able to finish. 5. Request steamed veggies. 6. Don’t let yourself down by getting (or sharing) a dessert. Order some fruit or Jell-O instead, if you must have something sweet. 7. Arrive with a healthy meal in mind and ask for it without opening your menu. This will spare you the pain of looking at an array of temptation. 8. After each bite, put your fork down, and don’t pick it up again until you’ve completely swallowed the last bite. 9. Drink a glass of skim milk or soy milk before you leave your house. 10. Look for restaurants that serve “contemporary”, “spa” or “California” cuisine. OTHER EATING TIPS Treat yourself once a week to a something you love. Dont pig out the whole day because you will undo all your hard work from the previous week. Bring your own lunch and snacks from home. Prepare the night before to save time. Every time you crave something (example: a burger, pizza, cake, cookies, etc.) write it down on a piece of paper and put it in a jar. On Saturday or Sunday pull one item out of the jar and go for it! 36 Tips To Hearing God’s Voice, The Voice For Love Within You: Tip #2 - The Evolution Of Truth

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By DavidPaul Doyle What is the evolution of truth? It sounds like a strange concept because Truth is eternal. It’s changeless. It’s formless. It’s the essence of pure being that we are and that God is. Truth is the Reality of God, so how can there be an evolution of Truth? When we experience truth in the world, in many ways, it is an evolutionary experience. We are constantly deepening our experience of Truth, our experience of Oneness, our experience of Love, understanding, compassion, and what’s important are those “qualities.” Those are the qualities that the Voice for God within us teaches us about. God’s Voice, by whatever name you call this Presence of Love and Peace within you, teaches us about love, compassion, understanding, acceptance, and truth. God can only speak to us “where we are,” what we’re capable of learning right here, right now. God could give the same truth to each and every one of us, and yet we are each going to take in exactly what we’re capable of taking in right now that makes sense to us, that feels real, accurate, and valid. This is an important concept in hearing God’s Voice within you because it will help you stop comparing WHAT you hear and HOW you hear to anyone else, because we each need to hear what we need to hear in order to awaken. If twenty people were to ask God the same exact question, they would all hear something different. Each person has different life experience, different history, different belief systems, different culture, different background, and different language. Our minds are very unique, and when God speaks to us, He speaks to us through our particular mind, life experience, history, belief system, and vocabulary. If you are a five-year old child, you’re going to hear something completely different when you ask God a question about a particular situation than if you are possibly an atheist, a Buddhist, a scientist, someone living in Mongolia, or someone who comes from a very wealthy family. Because we’re so unique in these ways, God is going to speak to each of us exactly where we are. What is it that we need to hear right here, right now in order to deepen our experience of Truth, Love and Peace? God will say something different to each of us, and that’s the power of hearing God’s Voice within you because you’re not taking a concept of Truth that you read in a book or that someone else says to you and somehow figure out how to apply that Truth to your life. God will speak to you exactly where you are on a particular topic-right here, right now. That is powerful! That helps us each to deepen our understanding of Truth in our own way and at our own time. It’s not taking an abstract concept and figuring out how to apply that concept or teaching to your life or somehow make it real. It gets made real right here and right now by hearing this Voice for Truth within you. When we understand that there is no generic form that God’s Voice expresses in, we can allow everybody to hear whatever they hear, even if it seems contradictory to what we hear. It’s what that person needs to hear to awaken. You need to hear something different, and I need to hear something different. Sure there’s going to be some commonality, and we may even hear exactly the same thing, but the point is, we each hear what we need to hear in this moment. When we can give that to our self and have that be okay, we are able to extend that to others and allow what they hear to be ok. What you hear doesn’t need to match what this teacher, author, or minister says God’s truth is. I hope the messages we hear and share from God’s Voice are helpful to people, and yet, you might hear something different. You will hear something unique to you, and that’s what’s important! It doesn’t mean that someone is hearing God’s Voice and someone isn’t just because they hear different things. It’s that each one heard God’s Voice within them, and each heard what they needed to hear and how they needed to hear it. When you give this to yourself, you’ll stop comparing what you hear with what another person hears and you will be able to recognize God speaking to people in all kinds of ways, all over the world, non-stop. And it won’t matter what it sounds like. You’ll be able to see the Truth in it, and understand that each person gets what they need for their awakening and growth. This is what we call, “The evolution of Truth,” hearing as much Truth as we are possibly able to receive in this moment, in exactly this form, on this topic, and that is perfect. We could ask the same question tomorrow and get a different answer or the same answer. We might ask the same question next year or ten years from now and get the same answer or a different answer. There are no rules. This moment is this moment. That’s it. We will hear whatever we need to hear in whatever form we need to awaken. Over the next few days, as you practice this concept, ask God’s Voice, the Voice for Peace and Love within you, for guidance and allow yourself to receive whatever you receive and know that it doesn’t have to sound like, mimic, or be anything like what you’ve ever heard before. If it is exactly what you’ve heard before, that is perfect as well. That is just what you need to hear. For example, if you are a student of A Course in Miracles and your mind is formed with that vocabulary and that understanding, then what you hear will probably be very similar to that body of work. If you have a mindset of a Catholic priest, you’re going to hear in that form. If you’re a Buddhist, you’re going to hear with that vocabulary and that belief system, and that is perfect. If you’ve never studied any practice or belief, then you’re going to hear however you do and that’s perfect. That’s how hearing God’s Voice works! Hear however you do and know that is perfect for you. Over the next few days, begin to recognize how other people hear and that what they hear is perfect for them. This will truly change the way you experience God’s Voice within you and outside of you. Blessings to you. The World’s Biggest Jerk

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Jeffrey Hauser Ive just watched another episode of Dr. Phil where another insensitive clod was cheating on his wife while she was caring for his three kids. He explained how he was feeling neglected and the sex wasnt the same anymore either. Really? What was she thinking putting the baby before him? Couldnt the little sucker wait for her to satisfy her husbands primal needs first, instead on crying to have his diaper changed or be fed? How insensitive of the newborn. Its not just on Dr. Phil. Cheating men are everywhere with all kinds of similar reasons for committing adultery. A few that I can remember are: (a) My wife doesnt look like the hottie she was ten years ago But you do? (b) I need change of scenery Then go on a vacation (c) We dont have enough sex It takes two to tango. (d) She spends too much time with the kids And your responsibility is what again? (e) Shes gained weight I suppose youre the same trim stud as you always were? (f) We never talk anymore Is your mouth sewn shut too? (g) It just happened when we got a new secretary And the new mailmans off limits? (h) We met in a bar and I was drunk When liquors involved, its always acceptable. (i) I dont have an excuse: it just happened Finally, an honest man. Remember why you married in the first place. Wasnt there something about commitment and responsibility? I realize that many woman cheat on their husbands and it works both ways. But this is about men. Ive seen these great looking women with these loser macho men that think theyre Gods gift to other ladies and somehow deserve better. Well, I have a clue for them: they arent and dont. Be thankful for what you have and make it work. Most of these guys dont realize how lucky they are and how many other guys lust after their wives. But, instead, they go trawling around after anything in a skirt, thinking that other woman cant wait to be hit on for a quicky. These shallow men make us all look bad. There are either really stupid when it comes to women or totally misguided. They dont understand the consequences of their actions and figure the whining bitch will always take them back when they come limping home after a failed affair. After all, who else would want the old, fat, kid-rearing, ex-hottie, that doesnt talk much, always looks about the same, and doesnt even give BJs anymore? I wonder why not? Look what our man did to deserve her affections before the affair. If all of this is lost on the men reading this article, I have a final word of advice. Its rarely, if ever, worth a few minutes of sexual pleasure with a stranger when your wife is more than willing to satisfy you. That is, if you are willing to do a minimal amount of loving and caring for her. But if thats too much to ask, then go right on being the worlds biggest jerk. Why Insight and Flexibility is More Important than Perseverance in Marketing

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Vishal P. Rao Marketing successfully requires not only insight into how a product or service can be successfully marketed but also flexibility into the marketing of a product or service. This is one of the marketing principles that doesn’t seem to be taught successfully. Too many times, the “marketing gurus” will promote a type of marketing that has worked for them to the exclusion of all other types of marketing. Now the type of marketing they promote may very well have worked well for them, but it is folly to believe that one marketing method and one marketing method only will work for every product or service everywhere. This just is not the reality as marketing methods can be as unique as the products and services that are marketed. Innovation, creativity and flexibility are needed in any type of marketing efforts. Trying several types of marketing is usually the best method of eliminating marketing methods that fail, and determining which marketing methods are successful. Online business or any type of business for that matter demands perseverance and determination. Perseverance and determination are also promoted heavily by the marketing gurus. However, perseverance and determination does NOT mean sticking with a marketing method that is incorrect for the product or service or NOT producing any results. It does not mean continuing self-defeating marketing methods over and over at a loss each and every month. To prove a point about the misconceptions sometimes promoted by the marketing gurus and the misconceptions others may have about perseverance in general, I’ve used two actual case studies below: A. Case Study #1 is a young male who started an online business many years ago promoting marketing resources and marketing strategies. He had many fine offerings that were of great value, as he spent much time and energy researching and developing resources. He read many manuals from marketing gurus, who stressed a lot on list building and e- mail marketing. This young man, following the marketing guru’s advice, spent much time and energy for years, e-mailing others relentlessly, swapping ads for further exposure, writing articles in other newsletters and e-zines, and trying every “trick” of e-mail marketing to no avail. He also persisted in this strategy as he had taken to heart the principle of “never quitting” quite literally, which the gurus had promoted so heartily to him. He lost quite a great deal of time and money until he noticed that his Web site had been ranking quite well in the Search Engines (after all, he had great content). Most of the few sales he had been making were coming directly from his Web site, despite the fact that he did not believe in (and dreaded) Search Engine marketing! He rethought the whole process and his approach, and began focussing on marketing his resources strictly from his Web site, applying his perseverance and determination to that, with incredible success ever since! B. Case Study #2 is a middle aged female who approached the marketing somewhat differently, as she had read a manual from a different marketing guru. She was promoting a customized service, rather than a product, and the guru, whose advice she followed, firmly believed in Search Engine marketing, and Search Engine marketing alone. She spent literally tons of money, and tons of time, getting her Web site to the top of the Search Engines. Like Case Study #1, she felt that if she only gave it enough time, and persevered, sales would be made. As time went on, she discovered that most of her sales were being made through her e-mail marketing. Her articles, ad swapping, and other e-mail marketing efforts (she published routinely her own newsletters and e-zines), were leading to more clients than those which were attained off her Web site. In her case, e-mail marketing was the “key” to success, but she also was following the mandates of the wrong marketing guru. The above two studies highlight the folly of blindly following the mandates of any marketing guru. While many do have good solid advice to give, the business owner must possess enough flexibility to test many methods. Creativity and an open mind help immensely when determining marketing methods. Perseverance and dedication are important, of course. But they must be applied correctly, along with flexibility and innovation, for success to occur in a business. All avenues should be pursued with perseverance and dedication and then choices of marketing methods made based upon the results. After all, results are what make a marketing method successful! Without results, any marketing method is a dismal failure. ———– Vishal P. Recent Cell Phone Advancements

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Liu]Philip Liu Cell phones have come a long way since the early days of the 1980s when they were the size of a brick and weighed almost as much. Today, cellular phones come with built-in cameras, polyphonic ringtones, and high-tech games. New 3G mobile phones are also capable of downloading full motion video and full spectrum music. Whereas there were only a few manufacturers of cell phones in the 1980s, today there are many. In addition to original manufacturers such as Motorola and Siemens, today phones are manufactured by Sony-Ericsson, LG, Toshiba, Samsung, Hitachi, Danger, Palm, HP and others. As wireless cell phone use increases around the globe, the old CDMA and TDMA standards are being replaced with GSM, the global standard outside of North America. Relatively new mobile phone companies such as Vodafone and T-Mobile in Germany and NTT DoCoMo in Japan have taken advantage of increased cell phone use by expanding their mobile phone offerings and plans world-wide. Also, traditional computer companies are moving or have moved into the cell phone industryPalmOne manufactures the Treo 650, HP is coming out with its own smartphone PDA and Microsoft powers the operating systems of many of the newest cell phones on the market. In addition to being used as a method of wireless voice communication, cell phones have within the last decade morphed into mobile computing platforms. These new cell phones are powerful enough to power many applications that only a few years ago required one to be stationed at a desktop computer. Concurrent with technological innovation and increased adoption worldwide, prices for both hardware and service plans have dropped steadily over the last decade. Whereas only a few years ago most cell phone service providers required 3 year contracts with heavy penalties for early cancellation, now one can get a free state-of-the-art phone with only a one year contract. Beyond the cell phone hardware, whole new industries have sprung up catering to the needs of cell phone users who demand accessories such as cell phone covers, screen-savers, and ring tones. As well, SMS (simple messenging system) and MMS (multimedia messenging system) lingo is slowly entering the cell phone society vernacular. Use of shorthand abbreviations such as LOL (laughing out loud), SWAK (sealed with a kiss) and G2G (got to go) has become second nature to teenagers who are the main users of phone messenging globally. Eye Spy - In Search of a Greater Lash

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Cathy Gatson Shopping for mascara can be an “eye opening” experience. Who knew there were so many formulas to choose from? Thickening, lengthening, volumizing, maximizing and separating, only to name a few; it’s no wonder a tube of “Maybelline Great Lash” is being sold somewhere in the world every 1.5 seconds. It’s bright pink and green tube stands out from all the rest, saving us from the myriad of eye lash options, without batting an eye many of us grab the familiar and alas another sale for Great Lash the best selling mascara for 33 years. I do own a tube I admit but because I read it was a “must have”, plus it adds a little color to my make up bag. In search of a greater lash I secretly spied into the makeup bags of my most well painted friends, casually slipped in “so what mascara do you use” to unsuspecting co-workers, and polled long lashed strangers to uncover their mascara of choice. To my surprise, friends and strangers alike were wide eyed and bushy tailed to share the secrets of their lash life. Coat the wand with a little Vaseline and gently wipe mascara from the bristles but don’t damage the wand. Vaseline works best. Water won’t remove all the mascara residue and soap can irritate your eyes. Shelf life of mascara is 3 - 4 months. Always have a dampened Q-tip handy when applying your mascara to clean up any smudges before they dry! Fashion Fair Cosmetic Manager Dewayne Moore recommends using a lash conditioner to improve brittle, dry lashes, extend the life of the lash and to help mascara adhere better and longer. Look after your eyelashes just like your do your hair and skin If necessary curl lashes using mascara curler before applying mascara. For best results “draw the mascara wand out of the tube and gently scrape off any clumps on the side or wipe with a tissue before applying, says makeup artist Brandi Williams. Oprah’s make up man Reggie Wells, says “start at the lash roots and gently sweep mascara to the ends” Allow lashes to dry between coats. Use lash comb or spiral brush to remove any clumps. Reggie Wells believes applying mascara to bottom lashes is not necessary and only draws attention to dark circles and wrinkles below the eye area. Try brown on bottom lashes for subtle definition. Remove before bedtime with a gentle eye make up remover like Lancome Bi-facil Eye Makeup Remover or Andrea Q eye make up remover pads. Learn Sewing: It’s A Simple Solution To Every Day Problems

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Gabriel J. Adams Everyone has had a button pop off of their shirt, or their favorite pants tear down a seam. These things can cause a minor annoyance, and sometimes they can cause you to get rid of that particular piece of clothing, but it does not have to be that way. If you know how to sew, then these small problems can be easily remedied. Both of these things can easily be done with a needle and thread by hand, but if you do not know how to sew, then you will not be able to fix these things on your own. Sewing is a very good skill to have when you are on your own, because it can save you money if you have to fix these types of problems. However sewing can be so much more than just a way to fix problems with your clothing. Sewing can offer many benefits throughout your lifetime as a hobby and even as a career. Many people take up sewing as a hobby, because they enjoy spending their time working with their hands. You can hand-stitch, or use a sewing machine to create many different things from clothing, to blankets, and even drapes. The best thing about sewing things yourself is that you can put your own personal touch on your project, and create something that is one of a kind. If you have a little bit of free time and some imagination you can sew just about anything that you want. After honing your skills sewing and working out your creative juices you might even be able to turn your hobby into a job. Many people never picked up sewing when they were growing up so they need someone to fix their clothing and sometimes make alterations so that their clothes can fit better. Jobs are also available for people that can make curtains, bedspreads, and have the imagination to create innovative designs. If you have the ability to create beautiful products then you can make a very nice living sewing. Find more info on sewing and Pattern Sewing. Legislating Morality: The Sanction of Marriage

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Virginia Bola, PsyD Biologically, a coupling between male and female (with some very rare exceptions like aphids, mites, and some lizards) is required for procreation, critical for survival of the species. On the other hand, marriage is a human social contract, historically accepted as the optimum means of raising offspring who require years of care before they become independent. Divine blessing on the union is important to many but marriage in the eyes of religion is totally separate from the civil contract of marriage itself. It is the civil contract which has legal standing for government programs like social security and which can be severed by the courts in divorce proceedings. As a social contract between two individuals, the presumption that one must be male and one must be female is irrelevant. Marriage is certainly an emotional and legal commitment. Once two individuals make the choice that they will spend the rest of their lives together, society approves the decision, notwithstanding the fact that only half of us will be able to permanently remain in that relationship. It is approved because it is a force for stability and responsibility, both vital if a culture is to thrive. Most married couples have children; many do not. Child rearing is therefore only one aspect of the state of matrimony, not the sole reason for its existence. So why the outcry against same-sex marriage which brings the same forces of stability and responsibility to society as do heterosexual unions? I suggest that the widespread movement against gay marriage is not really directed at marital vows at all but is a revolt against homosexuality itself. Rather than supporting gays by letting them receive legal sanction for their relationships, we want to punish them. They have stepped outside the bounds of our experience. They make us feel uncomfortable. We see a young man and a girl kissing on the street and smile. We see two young men kissing and emotionally recoil. Most heterosexuals cannot understand gays and unconsciously think that there is “something wrong” with them. (Until 20 years ago, homosexuality was listed as a mental disorder!) If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, gays are from another galaxy. Because of our discomfort or, in many cases, disgust, we try to legislate them out of existence. The courts, and the culture at large, will not allow us to get rid of them. All we have left is an ability to relegate them to a less-than-equal status by denying them an important social right: marriage. That denial, codified in 11 states on election night, 2004, revealed a fearful desire to legislate morality and conduct according to a pre-conceived idea of what is right and wrong for everyone regardless of their religious, moral, humanistic, or sexual preferences. The morality crusade that was Prohibition was possibly the most destructive social experiment ever attempted. Not only did it fail to stop the use of alcohol, but led to the rise of organized crime which still holds sway some 80 years later. We can successfully legislate against behaviors that hurt society — murder, theft, violence and other dangerous acts — because society benefits when its members are safe and protected. To suggest that the safety of the world can be threatened by two same-sex individuals reciting vows of commitment before a local official is preposterous. The will to legislate against such an act reflects only our idea to withhold, to punish, to declare before all that it is only our values which matter and that we are right, divinely right.
