And the demand for these products is increasing greatly. ADA recognizes the importance of setting down standard definitions when talking about tooth whitening products. Whitening, for example, us the process that will render the teeth whiter or atleast make it appear whiter. There are 2 ways that can achieve this. One is actually changing the natural tooth color, making it whiter. Bleaching products contain peroxide which not only removes surface or extrinsic discoloration but also the acts to penetrate the deep or intrinsic stains. On the other hand, non-bleaching products only have agents that only remove surface stains by chemical or physical action. These products can be dispensed and/or administered by a dentist or bought by the patient directly from a drugstore, which is called over-the-counter products. And incredibly, over 60% of American adults are now overweight.1 Somehow, our diet obsession has turned us into the fattest people in history. Weve also seen an explosion of other diet-related problems. Here in my clinic, so many of my new patients just can’t figure out why theyre so tired. Americans: Overfed but Undernourished Our tastes naturally guide us to food thats good for us. Unless our ancestors were starving, they didn’t eat grains because grains didn’t taste good. Without processing, grains are hard, gritty, tasteless and difficult to digest. A natural balance ensued. The grains escaped mammalian predation and we stuck to foods we are adapted to eat. In the recent low-carb trend, Americans got a little closer to the mark, but they still didn’t hit it. Not all carbohydrates are equal. Vegetables are a great source of carbs. They’re high in fiber, which slows the conversion of carbohydrates into glucose. That’s important because it also slows your body’s release of insulin. Fruits, nuts, and seeds are good as well. You can eat all these in their natural form and they are all good carbs. Grains, potatoes, and corn cant be eaten without processing or cooking and turn out to be problematic. They’re higher in starch and create huge amounts of blood sugar eventually leading to insulin overproduction, which only leads to weight gain. Lumping vegetables in with grains just because theyre both carbohydrates, ignores these critical differences and just doesn’t make nutritional sense. Rational Christian Answer To Ayn Rand

By Babu Ranganathan As a Christian I wish to respond to Ayn Rand’s non-theistic and self-centered philosophy and arguments against Christian altruism. I am quite familiar with Ayn Rand’s philosophy, and the fact is Ayn Rand would be totally correct if Darwinian macro-evolutionary theory were true. However, the actual and objective scientific evidence shows that there are natural limits to evolution in nature and that we are not here by chance or by macro-evolutionary processes. Please read my essay “The Natural Limits of Evolution” at my website. Therefore, there is a God to Whom Ayn Rand and all of us must give an account. God is not being egotistical. Truth demands that God be the Center of our lives. Ayn Rand misunderstands the concept of Christian altruism and the proper context in which Christian altruism is to be applied. Christian altruism does not mean that we should give to others unconditionally in all circumstances because that would not be for the true benefit of others. Christian love seeks what is for the true benefit of others, not whatever they desire or want. For example, the Bible teaches that a person who is not willing to work should not eat. Therefore, feeding such a person is wrong since it would only be helping to increase the selfishness of such a person. There is a difference between selfness and selfishness. The first involves proper Biblical love and care for oneself as God intends. The latter is based on ego and pride. Christianity is not against legitimate self-interest. We are created in God’s image so, of course, God would want us to love ourselves as well as to love others. Ayn Rand rightly claims that “A” cannot be “non A” but she misapplies this principle in her critique of Christianity. For example, when Christ said that “the first shall be last and the last shall be first” there is no true contradiction (i.e. “A” being “non A”), as Ayn Rand claims, because the both cases in which the words “first” and “last” are used within the context of the passage have different applications and reasons for usage. Jesus was simply saying that in this world a person is considered “first” or “last” for different reasons than why a person is considered “first” or “last” in God’s kingdom. Again, there is no real contradiction (i.e. there is no “A” equated with “non A”). According to Christian teaching, the individual (or self) is not an end in himself but rather is a means to an end - that end being to live for God and to please Him and to do His will. Part of living for God is to do good for ourselves as well as for others because we belong to God and are owned by Him. Christianity is not against the enjoyment of material things; it is against the worship of material things. God alone is worthy of worship! The Bible does not teach that money itself is the root of all evil but rather the Bible teaches that it is “the love of money which is the root of all evil.” God is glorified when His creatures enjoy the provisions, bounty, and wealth that He provides, but if it is God’s will and purpose in a particular case for an individual to give up all that he has and to give it to the poor then it is only right that the individual do so. After all, everything belongs to God, even the wealth a person gains in this life for nothing would be possible without God’s power and undeserving grace. By Dayo Olomu Should coming from the same background be a major issue in a relationship? In the 90s, one of the major things we sometimes overlook in a relationship is our partner’s background. To us, ‘what’s love got to do with background’? But the truth is that coming from the same background can enhance a relationship. Our background develops our values and ideas about love, life and relationship. A major conclusion reached is that having similar backgrounds in a relationship makes communication easier. Seeing things from the same perspective makes it easier to communicate and reason with your partner, without seeing that person as somebody from another planet. And naturally you are likely to be compatible. Certain factors in your background help with compatibility. If you come from similar race, religion, social class, education and are around the same age, you are more likely to be compatible and enjoy a long-lasting relationship.. What beliefs does this person hold dear? Relationships last longer when both partners share basic beliefs in such matters as sex, parenting, friends, religion, leisure time and division of household labour. If love were real estate, we would all be speculators. Even attractive, peaceful parcels can hide fault lines and toxic waste. Still, there are ways to recognise a good deal when you see it and to make the most of your investment once you are committed. Most times when people go into a relationship where they see things from different angles as a result of background; they know deep inside that it just won’t work but they still put their hopes in the hands of destiny who is a cruel master. By the time the ‘being in love’ feeling subsides and reality sets in, the relationship crashes sooner than expected. Imagine a thirty-year-old guy whose father is a rich businessman and mother a housewife. In his environment, his father is like a god. What he says is law. His wife dares not question his authority or else she may be beaten up, but he loves his wife. He drinks, he smokes and womanises. No matter how much love the man has for any woman, he’ll probably take after his father. Have you ever seen a man whose behavioural pattern differs from his father’s or a woman who doesn’t have anything in common with her mother? It is like looking for a virgin in a maternity ward. Our attitude to love is most times formed by the way we see our parents talk and practise love. In matters of relationships, background is something that should not be overlooked, although it is not a 100% guarantee for a successful relationship. An unhappy childhood for instance can make you have different expectations from a partner who had a happy experience, even if you appear to come from identical backgrounds. Background should be a major factor that should be thoroughly looked into, reconciled and balanced before making a lifetime commitment. It is very important that love is built on this sound footing or else instead of enjoying in love, you will either be struggling or suffering in love as many couples are currently doing. If you’re already in a troubled relationship, take an objective look into your partner’s background and yours whether they tally. You will possibly find that the reasons for your troubled relationship may be linked to issues in your partner’s background. Remember nobody can change anybody from what he inherited unless he wants to change. Can anybody change you except you wish to change? When you are faced with a situation you can’t change, you either change yourself, change the situation, stay in it, or break away from it. The values you brought from your childhood are the ones you pass on to your children and they in turn will pass them to their children. How can you pass on good values to your kids in these difficult times?
