The Five Biggest Marketing Mistakes made by Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Lea Woodward Mistake #1 - Failing to Focus on the BENEFITS that your Product or Service offers your Customers and Clients If you go to buy a TV, what are you actually buying? Are you buying the equipment…the combination of electronics and wires and the casing that surrounds it? Or are you actually buying the BENEFITS of the TV…the sound you will hear, the picture you will see, the pleasure you will get from flopping down in front of a widescreen TV to enjoy your favourite movie, perhaps the significance and joy that you get from owning a TV larger than the your neighbour across the road! If you can understand the following principle, your marketing will instantly improve:People dont buy your product or service. They buy the benefits that your product or service offers them. But this assumes you understand the benefits of your services yourself! Do you know why your existing clients work with you? If not, ask them! You may find that the reasons differ…one may work with you because of the motivation you bring, another because of the fun you inject into their training, another because you help them feel better about themselves. So spend some time getting clear on what exactly your benefits are and then make sure that you articulate them precisely in all of your marketing communications. Mistake #2 Relying on just one or two main forms of Marketing As a personal trainer of CHEK professional, you are probably using one or two main forms of marketing to grow your business. Perhaps you use word of mouth referrals or ads in your local gym? If you really want to grow your business, your aim should be to set up a multi-level marketing machine that works tirelessly for you to generate new clients on an ongoing basis. And that combines several marketing forms in one. You do not want to fall into the trap of so many trainers, who go all out to get new clients, spend their time training those clients & forget about marketing for a while, then when those clients leave, have to spend a few weeks or months getting more. Do you? So what additional forms of marketing are there? Have a look at the following: Direct mail Referrals Advertising Pay Per Click Telephone marketing Email marketing PR Joint Ventures What would happen if you were to double the number of marketing strategies that you currently use, consistently over the next few years? Mistake #3 - Running Ineffective Advertising Have you ever spent a few hundred pounds to advertise in the local Yellow Pages? Do you know how successful it was for you? What your return on investment was? Many personal trainers & fitnessprofessionals get caught up in spending money they do not really have on advertising. It can be a highly effective way of generating new clients and increasing your business but it can also be a costly mistake. The main causes of an ineffective advertising campaign are: Badly written adverts Lack of testing to see how successful it is Before you consider advertising in anything, consider this: Make sure you write compelling & action-oriented copy. Get your prospective clients to take action once they have read your ad. Either calling or emailing to get a free report or some form of response. This is the only way you will know if your advert is working for you or not. Make sure you get the headline right as this is your only chance to get somebody to read your ad. If the headline is rubbish, they will not read further than that.. Mistake #4 - Not Communicating Effectively with Existing or Former Clients Your best immediate sources of additional profits and increased business are your existing or former clients. These are the people who you have already invested time, energy and money with to create a relationship. They know you, they trust you, hopefully they have enjoyed training with you. Because of this it is normally five to ten times easier to get an existing client to buy from you again, than it is to get someone to buy from you for the first time. You might then be asking, if this is true, why do so few businesses do this well? Think about some of the companies who do. Amazon for example. Do you get their emails telling you about new books they have recently released that might be of interest to you, based on your previous purchases? That is a great example of keeping in touch with existing customers. Imagine th: if you could keep your existing clients in a ‘ready & willing to buy state; so that if you suggest a great new service or product, they are just desperate to buy; would you want that? So if you apply this principle to your business, here are some useful questions to answer: How often do you communicate with your existing or former clients? What do you have to offer your existing or former clients? What are you not offering existing or former clients that you could be offering them? When did you last send a letter to your former clients? When did you last email them? Did you measure the response? When did you last call them? When you do communicate with them, what more could you be doing to clearly explain the specific benefits that they will experience? Here are some more useful questions to maximize your relationship with existing or former clients: Do you spend at least 15 minutes each month thinking of an exclusive offer you can make to your clients? Do you say thank you to yourclients either by letter, email or telephone? Do you ask your clients for referrals? If, as a personal trainer of CHEK professional you have a limited service or product line, do you know of additional companies, products or services that your clients could benefit from? Mistake # 5 - Not using Email Marketing Effectively Would you like to be able to communicate directly with your existing clients and potential clients for free, any time you like and as often as you like? Anywhere in the world? For free!! Well, with email marketing you can. The power of the internet is immense. Where else can you market to people who are looking for just what you provide precisely at the moment that they are looking for you? Where else can you find out instantly whether theres a market for a new service or product you are thinking of offering? To make email or internet marketing work for you, you must: Capture the email details of every potential, interested client Use the emails to contact these potential, interested clients on a fairly regular basis Personalise your email communicationsIf you can avoid these 5 big mistakes when marketing your personal training or fitness-based business, then you will be ahead of most of your competitors and easily attract new clients. Secured Bad Credit Loans Make Sense

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gordon_Goodfellow]Gordon Goodfellow Secured bad credit loans were looked on with a bit of derision in years gone by. Now they make total sense, and we should be glad. Official UK figures tell us why! According to CreditAction.org.uk ‘At the end of December 2005 the total UK personal debt was 1,158bn. Total secured lending on property in December 2005 was 965.2bn. This has increased 10.4% in the last 12 months.’ This is during the time the average UK consumer debt is 7,786, and that is excluding mortgage debt. Average consumer borrowing through credit cards, motor and retail finance deals has increased five times in five years. Yet the typical property value in britain in November 2005 worked out at 186,431 (source: Office of DPM). The figures tell their own story. The much higher interest payable on credit cards, motor and retail credit (store cards etc.) bite a considerable chunk out of the typical person’s monthly budget. The only sensible way out of this is fairly obvious. Consumers need to convert the high interest debt into lower interest credit by making use of their property as security. Even if people’s credit status is fairly poor it makes more sense to pay off the same amount of money at a lower interest rate by means of a secured bad credit loan. Now new lenders are becoming available which consider all circumstances. This new market for secured bad credit loans has grown up in the last few years, and it has grown outside of the mainstay of the High Street lenders. As long as consumers have property then they can borrow as much money as they want to pay off existing debts. Nor do consumers have to pay the high interest rates that used to be the case with people whose credit worthiness was not the best. Would it not make sense to pay 60 a month in servicing that debt than 150 every month paying off precisely the same amount? Secured bad credit loans offer that opportunity. Improvements in financial chance handling assessment mean that loans providers are readily prepared to take into account secured bad credit loans where they were not considered in the past. The self-employed, especially, are not treated as they have been, particularly with the fresh approach towards self-certification. Three years of audited books are no longer automatically required from those people who choose to work for themselves. People with County Court Judgements, IVAs, people who have defaulted on past or existing finance agreements and even discharged bankrupts are now usually considered in today’s changing world of credit. Increasingly consumers are taking larger financial chances, especially people in business and the entrepreneurial minded. The secured bad credit loans marketplace is increasing to take account of that because it must. Of course, borrowers should never consider secured loans where they are not completely sure they can make the repayments. Those people should look at unsecured loan products (which are more expensive). But, as CreditAction.org.uk states, the average value of a house in the UK is ‘186,431 (195,319 in England). UK yearly house price inflation went up by 2.5 %. Annual house price inflation in London was 2.2 percent.’ Putting all that capital to good use by means of a secured credit loan is an option most people would consider, whatever their credit status. No Faxing Fast Cash

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kevin_Stith]Kevin Stith The numbers in a cash budget are often taken for precision. A great deal of faith is usually put on them. A moments reflection, however, would reveal that the figures found in the cash budget merely represent estimates of future cash flows. The actual cash flows are likely to deviate from the estimates provided in the cash budget - the extent of deviation depends mainly on how volatile are the cash flows of the business. The liquid resources of a firm may be kept in various forms: cash balance in current account, reserve drawing power under cash credit or overdraft arrangement. No faxing fast cash in current account provides the highest degree of liquidity. However, the interest earned on current account balance is nil. Hence it is costly to keep cash balance in current account. Yet, no firm can conceivably do without some balance in its current account. Indeed, some firms carry large cash balances in current accounts. Reserve drawing power under cash credit or overdraft arrangements may appear to be an economical way of maintaining liquidity. The firm is not required to pay any interest on the unutilized portions of the cash credit or overdraft limits, yet it has a ready access to the undrawn amounts. However, there is a catch. If a part of the cash credit or overdraft limit, kept in reserve to meet contingencies, remains unutilized over a prolonged period of time, the bankers may reduce the cash credit or overdraft limit. This seems to be the reason why some firms draw fully on these limits, for some periods of time at least, even if it means keeping the funds virtually idle in their current accounts. Depositing money with other companies, on a short-term basis, is fairly attractive in terms of rate of return. Typically, these deposits are made for a period of 2 to 6 months, often with a right to recall at a months notice. Preparing for Remarriage: Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Alyssa Johnson One of the most overlooked aspects of a remarriage is that your family will now include people who arent just living in your house. Unfortunately, Im not just referring to aunts, uncles and grandparents. The hidden truth about divorce is that it doesnt end your relationship with your ex-spouse or their family, it just re-shuffles it. If you didnt have children together, then yes, the relationship can be at an end. Butwith children in the picture, you will always be connected no matter how angry that may make you. If you are marrying someone whos been divorced, you need to accept the fact that your partners ex-spouse and family will be your family members too. Now I know a lot of you may be getting angry about now, but take a deep breath and hang in there with me. Obviously these people probably wont be living IN your house, but their influence will be keenly felt. Its best that you acknowledge this now and learn how best to prepare for it. This continued connection to an ex-spouse is why its vital to wait in making the decision to remarry. Its normal for relations with exs to be very heated during and shortly after a divorce. You need time to let that anger cool before getting into another relationship, otherwise your anger toward your ex and theirs at you will haunt your new relationship. All this does is make life difficult for you, your new partner, and more than likely your children. The sooner you can accept that your ex-spouse will be connected to you through your children, the quicker you can squelch those flames of anger and begin to focus on building that connection in a new manner in order to parent your children effectively. In the next article, I’ll focus on how that “new connection” should work. Visit http://www.Remarriagesuccess.com for more information on how to prepare as a couple and a family for remarriage. Now that you’ve learned one of the differences to expect in a remarriage, I encourage you to register today for a free 5 day e-course focusing specifically on some of the other differences to prepare for at http://www.Remarriagesuccess.com/e-course.htm Alyssa Johnson, MSW, LCSW is the founder and CEO of Remarriage Success. Old Hiring Foxes vs. The Hedgehogs

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Lisa Nirell You are about to compete for the best people again. The recovery is happening. Labor statistics indicate over 280,000 new jobs were created in the U.S. last May. Is your company’s hiring process a competitive weapon-or a ball and chain? If you’re not sure, here are some places to look: 1. You abdicate hiring responsibility to an HR person or executive recruiter. That’s their job, right? Wrong. The job of HR is a support and advisory role. The role of a recruiter is to help you build a stronger pipeline of available candidates and advise you on key hires. For key positions, take a proactive role and implement a recruiting and interviewing process. One software client of mine once relied on HR to design their job descriptions. For years, they attracted people with the right education and skills for open positions. The bad news is that the job description did not help a hiring executive assess a person’s behaviors or cultural fit for that division. Two Directors who were hired under the old model were demoted after much customer uproar about missed deadlines on product launches. 2. You think lunch appointments and golf outings are great settings to conduct interviews. How much do you spend time wooing high-flying producers this way, yet cannot seem to get any decision from the interviewee? Listen for the much-dreaded response: “I’ll think about it (which is a polite, wimpy way of saying no).” 3. You become attached to specific candidate(s). Do you ever hear yourself saying things like, “she would really do well in our culturewe go to the same churchI have a good feeling about her” You lose commitment to hiring the best person, and get attached to a personality. 4. You confuse selling with interviewing. I recently heard the VP of a mortgage company tell me, “we want to build our candidate pipeline, get them in here for a meeting, and pitch them on our company.” If you have to waste 2 hours “pitching” somebody to come work for you, what kind of loyalty and credibility are you fostering? How likely will they see through that inauthentic gamesmanship? Pretty likely. 5. When someone asks, “what makes your company an exciting place to work? you draw a blank or start pitching. This may indicate that your company does not know its uniqueness-or, as Jim Collins calls it, your “hedgehog.” In Good To Great, he describes how enduring companies are extremely clear about three things: what they are deeply passionate about, what fuels their economic engine, and what they can be best in the world at. If your company is facing this situation, how can you expect your future employees to be intrigued by what you offer? Collins applauds GE’s “process hedgehog.” Their model is: build the greatest management development system (their passion), profit per unit of top executive talent (their economic engine), and developing the best general management talent (they are best in the world at it). Collins says “this basic hedgehog has driven their economic flywheel since 1910.” In my interviews and analysis of over 50 CEOs last year, I discovered that scattered, fox-like hiring behaviors truly separate the average companies from the superstars. I assert that in today’s global economy, our only remaining competitive differentiators are our people, our innovations, and our hedgehog. How will your company secure solid ground in at least one these areas? In our next ezine article, I’ll present some fundamental hiring tune-ups every company needs to consider. As the Greek parable says: “The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing.” Lisa Nirell is President of Nirell & Associates in Del Mar, CA. The New Urban Christian

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Sonya Triggs Who are these new Urban Christians? Whats up with the afros, long hair, grunge or gangster attire? Have you been to a Christian rock concert? You can hardly tell the difference between it and a Rolling Stones Concert there are crowds of long-haired teens and young adults, swaying to the music, holding up lighters. Have you been to a Gospel concert? Its just like going to see any popular R&B artist everybodys in their nicest clothes (which includes low riders and midriff tees), fur coats are front and center and people drive up in Hummers, Navigators and Escalades, bling-blinging away. Are these really Christians or has this generation of believers simply lost its way? Before we get too carried away, we must remember that each new generation of Christians brings a new flavor, a new style, and a new way to worship God. Pastor Rick Warren, author of the popular Purpose Driven Life, pastors his church in khakis and polo shirts (and, for him, thats dressing up!). Go to any large congregation, and youll be treated to part-sermon, part skit, part video presentation and lots of contemporary music. Is this a bad thing? I have to believe the answer is no. Ask any teenager or young adult worshipping in these services if they know who God is, and they will say yes. As a matter of fact, ask any American if they are believers, and they will say yes as well (even if they havent seen the inside of a church since grade school). The question we really have to ask ourselves is whether or not the Christian message is getting out there. Does the average person feel like they have a relationship with God and do they feel like knowing God makes a difference in their lives? The answer is invariably yes. Are people less tuned in to traditional religious beliefs than in previous times? That answer is yes as well. But, this is only natural in this booming information age we live in. There is so much information about different spiritual beliefs, it is only natural that someone seeking enlightenment will sample Buddhist, Zen or mystical practices. Is this a good thing? Maybe. One line of thinking is that the exploration of spirituality (of any sort) will enhance a persons interest in seeking a Higher Power, which will lead them to knowing God. Another line of thinking is that exploration of other religions and spiritual practices will confuse people and lead them to take on a hodge-podge of beliefs and value systems. What do I think? I am happy that people are seeking God, even if it sometimes takes them on a different path than the one that I have chosen. My hope is that, when this thing we call Time comes to an end, it will all be made clear. And we will discover the One who is the center of all these spiritual and religious beliefs. So, who are these Urban Christians? They are a lot like you and me. And they are a lot like our parents and grandparents. They are people seeking to know God in their own way, with their own music and in their own fashion. So accept them. Sing along when you go to church or attend online. After all, we were all created in the same image and that should serve as our bond with one another. Sonya C.
